PCH Trip Day 3

Woke up around 6am Tuesday morning, most of the fog from the night before had subsided and the snow covered mountain tops could be seen. Sis and I had morning coffee at the cupola, a most enjoyable way to start off the morning.
Our morning drive continued up the I-5 and was extremely foggy around the California / Oregon border. At the town of Grants Pass we got off of the I-5 and headed back down towards California via the 199 (Redwood Hwy). The drive down was spectacular. We stopped for gas somewhere around Illinois Valley at a 76 gas station which turned out to be full service, I wasn’t expecting someone to pump my gas for me, odd. After crossing back into California it wasn’t to long before we were driving pass the tall redwood trees, breathtaking.

Our first stop of the day (besides gas) was at the Tree of Mystery just north of Klamath, CA. Yes, I know this place is a tourist trap but we both decided it would be nice to get out of the car for an hour or so and paid the $15 per ticket to roam the trails. The place was pretty empty being 11:30am on a Thursday morning and the trees were amazing to see up close. Afterwards Atori got a photo-opt with Babe.

Our next stop was at the Tour Thru Tree, which wasn't to far down the road. This was the first tree I got to drive Atori thru, fun.
We stopped at the town of Eureka and had lunch at Lost Coast Brewery. I got fish and chips and my sister got clam chowder.
After lunch we got off of the 101 and headed down the Avenue of the Giants, one of the pretties roads I have ever driven on, plus lots of places to pull over for photos.
the giant trees made Atori look so small
the forest ground was thick of clover
the second tree I got to drive thru today was the Shrine Drive-Thru Tree at Myers Flat.
back on the Avenue of the Giants
and the last tree I got to drive thru was the Chandelier Tree.
After the last tree we continue driving along the 1. The drive from Leggett over to the ocean was full of sharp turns, so mush fun to drive in a mini.
Our room for the night was at the Emerald Dolphin Inn in the town of Fort Bragg.
