PCH Trip Day 2

Wednesday morning we left the motel around 7am, which got us right into morning rush traffic. Most of the day was spent driving up the I-5, ten and a half hours of “boring” driving past oranges, grapes, lemons, and many different kinds of agricultural fields. Only once we got into the Shasta National Forest did the view turn beautiful and the road became fun to drive on with its hills and curves.

Our room for the night was at the Rail Road Park Resort, which was nestled in the mountains and one of the most beautiful places I have ever been. I would make the boring drive up the I-5 just to stay here again. Around 5pm we got checked in and was given the keys to our caboose #27. After unloading the car and exploring the grounds we jumped back in the car to find dinner. Dinner was nothing exciting, KFC which I bought at the nearby town of Mt Shasta.

After dinner we discovered that the door to our caboose wouldn't lock from the inside. The lady at the hotel was very nice and helpful and moved us next door to caboose #28 which had a working locking door and was identical to the first caboose. It rained for most of the night but I found the sound of the rain more peaceful then annoying.
