Twist & Shout 2010

September 11 – 12th was the DMC Twist and Shout run over to eastern AZ for a drive down Devils Highway. The two-day event stared on Saturday with the Desert Ratpack meeting at Starbucks on Stapley Dr in Mesa. (side note: we were given flag stickers to put on our cars in memory of 9-11th). The group took off around 9am and headed east to Globe for a quick stop to meet the Tucson group. Then the group headed up the 77 and stopped at the Salt River jail/store for a quick group photo. After taking lots of pictures we continued on the 77 over to Pinetop to spend the night at the Holiday Inn Express. We arrived at the hotel around 1pm, got checked in and then headed for lunch. Twelve of us had lunch at Mountain Thai, it was my first time having Thai food, it was ok but I think I like Chinese better.

After lunch we had a few hours to relax then at 5pm everyone regrouped outside the hotel for a fun run to Hawley Lake (also 3 minis from Texas joined our group, this gave us a 30mini count). The drive to the lake was so much fun and there was even cows on the side of the road. After the lake dive there was a big group dinner at Grumpy Jakes BBQ!, the waitresses really held true to the name of the restaurant. Once everyone got done eating there was a little meeting to end the night.

Sunday woke up at 6:30am got around, had a light breakfast, and checked out of the hotel. Around 8:20am we headed out as a big group on the 260 over to Eagar and then down the 191 to Hannagan Meadow Lodge for an early lunch and some more pictures. After eating we headed back on the 191 (aka AZ-666) for a fun drive full of twisties. After having a blast we made our last stop at Morenci Pit for the last group picture and said our goodbyes to everyone.

Going home sis and I stayed on the 191 with a small group of minis over to highway 70. Along the way we said goodbye to a few. We arrived at Globe with 4 other minis and said goodbye after making a small stop at the dairy queen in Superior. Got into town at 5pm and made it to my grandmother’s house at 5:15 to pick up Lubos and finally got home a little before 6pm. What a fun weekend^^
